Hi all,

Bear with me as I make my first foray into the livejournal community.  I am a new author with Ace, currently working on an Urban Fantasy series with a forensic theme.  My first novel, NIGHT CHILD, will be published as an original mass-market paperback in the Spring of 2008, with the sequel, HEXTACY, following in 2009.

I'm also a new professor.  As of August of 2007, I'll be a postdoctoral research fellow at the City University of New York, developing an academic book on the emergence of gay and lesbian teen literature.  I'll be teaching in the department of Film and Media Studies at CUNY-Hunter College, and living in Brooklyn (oddly enough, that makes me the only Ace writer who actually lives in New York).  My editor is Ginjer Buchanan, and my agent is Lauren Abramo of Dystel and Goderich Literary Management.

I have published two other academic books:

Farscape

NIGHT CHILD is my first novel, and I'll post a cover image as soon as it's available.  For more information on my other projects, visit my website:  here

*smiles and waves* Hey Jes. Followed the link from the FFF community.

My sister would be most interested in the Blood Relations book, I'll have to see about getting it for her. :)

LJ's actually a great place to start networking and such. Should help get the buzz out about your book. I'm sure some of the other folks will have good advice for you too, that's my meager input.

thanks! so far the other writers online have been awesome. "Blood Relations" is a bit pricey ($35 I think), but my Farscape book is more reasonable (20 bucks) and should be out by now.

Welcome to LJ and good luck with your forthcoming novel.

I also like the avatar! (And good choice to pick the short haired Flack rather than the season 1 gigolo flack.)

Hey! Looks like we have another thing in common. I'm at Dystel & Goderich, too. Though Jim McCarthy is mine.

We'll have to chat.

VERY cool. Pop culture research. I myself am ELA (English Language Acquisition) but since I work at a Community College, they let me get away with folklore (last year did a Fulbright to Russia in the summer for that) and pop culture (mostly surrounding anime, as I speak that language.)

Looking forward to your book.

Thanks Catherine! So far the fiction side of the coin is all new to me. I'm moving to New York in August, which is terrifying, but I get to meet with some of my dream professors at CUNY and hopefully I can get some fiction writing done as well.

Feel free to drop me a line at jbattis@sfu.ca

Farscape is one of my all-time favourite shows, been watching it since it began, it's the only sci-fi show I like - cause, to me, it's more fantasy than sci-fi, and there's only one 'human' in it. Very original, I love it!! Your book sounds interesting, I await it eagerly - though, like with any serious fan, arguments could arise... :)
